As the proprietor of a small antique/junk store in Salvador, Brazil, João Cabral makes a living selling the past. Amidst the mountains of stuff that make up his virtual mini-museum sits a box - a box of other people's photos. Weddings, graduations, snapshots, baby pictures and more are available for anywhere from fifty cents to twenty dollars. But who would buy other people's photos and why? And where does Cabral get them in the first place? Find out how dreams, economy, culture, colonialism and the quest for something authentic all cross paths in this short documentary "Quanto Vale?" |
